“We are devoted to the specialized service of fitting pessaries.”

Pessary fitting

Pessary

A pessary is a removable, flexible device inserted into the vagina to support the pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus, and rectum, helping to reduce unwanted symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

The most common symptoms of prolapse include heaviness, pressure, and bulging at the vaginal opening, low back or low abdominal pain, and incomplete or difficulty emptying the bladder or bowels.

Stress Urinary Incontinence

Pessaries can also be used in instances of stress urinary incontinence, which is defined as the involuntary loss of urine, often with activities such as sneezing, coughing, laughing, running, or jumping. In this case, the pessary puts a small amount of pressure on the urethra (the tube that drains the bladder), helping to keep it closed, decreasing the possibility of urinary leakage.

Fitted for You

Pessaries come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and must be fitted for each individual woman to ensure optimal benefit.

Internal Exam

The appropriate size and shape is determined through an internal pelvic exam. It may take a few trials to find the best fit- one that is comfortable and supports the pelvic organs well. A properly fitted pessary is not noticeable when it is in place.

Decreased Symptoms

About two-thirds of women find that a pessary helps to decrease their symptoms.
